TeraERC group members at the Beihang International Summer School in China

This month, a group of PhD students from the TeraERC team took part in the Beihang International Summer School, a summer school held in Hangzhou, China, and organized by Beihang University. PhD students Mateusz Maciejuk and Adrian Chlebowski participated in the 3rd International Terahertz Summer School, where lectures were delivered, among others, by representatives of leading research and technology institutions, such as Huawei Technologies (Lei Lu) and Nokia Bell Labs (Lorenzo Galati Giordano). Student Sara Łukasik and PhD student Wiktoria Szymska took part in the AI Photonics 2026 Summer School, where the lecturers were primarily academics, among them Prof. Perry Ping SHUM, President of the IEEE Photonics Society, and Prof. Aaron Ho Pui HO from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The programme concluded with participation in the Sustainable Photonics Conference 2026. The event provided an excellent opportunity to establish international connections and exchange experiences with students from different parts of the world, such as China, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia.

After a week of academic activities, participants took part in workshops dedicated to exploring Chinese culture, covering activities such as language learning and traditional handicrafts. There was also time to explore places connected with the history and cultural heritage of Hangzhou, such as the National Tea Museum and the Liangzhu Archaeological Museum.
