We were delighted to welcome Prof. Zbig Wasilewski to our laboratory!
Prof. Wasilewski is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, holds the University of Waterloo Endowed Chair in Nanotechnology, and is Director of the Quantum-Nano Centre Molecular Beam Epitaxy (QNC-MBE) Facility.
He is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and the development of advanced semiconductor nanostructures and photonic devices, particularly terahertz quantum cascade lasers (THz QCLs).
His research has played an important role in pushing the boundaries of THz QCL performance, including the demonstration of devices operating at record-high temperatures, bringing these compact THz radiation sources closer to practical applications.
During his visit, we had a valuable opportunity to discuss current research challenges in terahertz photonics and semiconductor technologies. We arrived at the conclusion that THz QCLs are expected to operate at elevated temperatures but the progress is rather slow.
We sincerely thank Prof. Wasilewski for visiting our laboratory and sharing his knowledge and experience. We look forward to continuing the scientific discussions and strengthening our research connections!
